The Coos Bay Area, often called the Oregon Coast Bay Area, is the most densely populated area on the Oregon coast. The city is located in the heart of the region, north of Eugene, Oregon, about 30 miles south of Portland. It is located in a valley of countryside and hosts a number of small and small towns as well as some large cities such as Eugene.
Described in the 1820s as the land of flowing milk and honey, Willamette Valley stretches for 150 miles from the city of Eugene to Portland. The Walla Wallas Valley Railway dates back to 1890 as the Oregon Electric Railway in Portland and is the longest interurban electric railway in Oregon. Many of Oregon's electric trains run to Portland and Michael Land, and the highway brings locals to and from Eugene as well as other cities such as Bend, Salem and Eugene. In the mid-19th century, a marker on the Oregon map, also known as the "Will Amette Route," became one of the largest interurbans ever operated, stretching from Portland to Eugene in a system that spanned well over 100 miles.
